Ms. Yvonne has been teaching since 1988! She has taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 2nd grade. Prior to teaching at PS 244 TALES, Ms. Yvonne has taught in a Brooklyn Head Start, at PS 132 in Springfield Gardens and PS 307 in Corona. She received her Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from Binghamton University, in Early Childhood/Elementary Education.
Ms. Yvonne is originally from Brooklyn and now lives in Port Washington on Long Island. Her husband, Mr. Jeff, is also a teacher. They have 2 sons. Jason graduated from SUNY Binghamton and works as a Mechanical Engineer in New York City. And, Derek attended SUNY Oneonta and now works in the Music Industry. Ms. Yvonne and her family have 2 very cute dogs, Sofi and Max. Ms. Yvonne enjoys playing with her pups, exercising, including yoga, and eating!!
Ms. Darrell has been a member of the TALES staff since its inception in 2008. She
began working for the NYC Department of Education’s District 75 as a paraprofessional in 2006. At TALES, Ms. Darrell has been a special education
paraprofessional and began teaching literacy in kindergarten and first grade in
2010. She has been a second-grade teacher since 2016. Ms. Darrell graduated
with honors from Queens College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in both
English and Elementary - Early Childhood Education. When completing her master’s at Mercy College, she solidified her career as an educator with a degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
Ms. Darrell lives in Queens with her husband of twenty-six years and their children.
She loves music, film, labor history and spending time with family and friends. She
would rather tour historic sights and learn about the past than go to the beach; and
when she travels, she always purchases something special for the classroom! Ms.
Darrell looks forward to seeing her students learn and grow throughout the coming
Ms. Valco Has a Master’s degree from Fordham University in Elementary Education and has taught 5th grade and Kindergarten prior to joining Tales as a 2nd grade teacher. This will be Ms. Valco’s 6th year teaching.
Besides teaching, Ms. Valco has been an advocate for schools in developing countries by helping to provide literacy for them through fundraising, campaigning and public speaking. Ms.Valco is also a self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie that loves anything from sky diving to mud races. Her newest adventure will be completing a century bike ride for a charity that she has organized this Fall. Ms.Valco loves to ride her bike all over the city and beyond.
Mrs. Pasternak has been teaching since 2006. She graduated from SUNY Cortland and received her Masters in Literacy from CW Post. She has taught first grade since she started at TALES and is moving on to a new and exciting adventure in second grade! She is a mother of two girls and resides in Long Island with her husband. Mrs. Pasternak loves to go on family vacations and enjoys seeing Broadway musicals.
