Open Houses for 2015-2016 potential new students will be on January 14th at 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Applications for Kindergarten will begin in January and Pre-K applications will likely begin at the end of February or beginning of March. Limited seats will be available for 1st and 2nd grade students.
Carl Sagan said "Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere." We're heading into a future that will go nowhere if we continue to place adult-like expectations on them. Help our kids lead us into the unknown by allowing them to use their imagination!
We're a small early childhood school that believes firmly that a healthy and active body is essential for learning. Our school serves our students healthy and nutritious lunches and educate students on fitness and nutrition.
We also believe that a child's imagination should be encouraged. Walk around our school and students will show you where the Super heroes sleeps, the door to the chamber of secrets, hidden treasures, and the gate that leads to the dragons den.
Imagination. There's a word children have not heard in a long time. We're requesting community playthings outlast shed playground block set for all of the students of our school to use during recess.
These modifiable block structures will allow the students of our school to think and tread in the unknown worlds of their imagination. They will learn that mistakes are meant to be made and they can learn from them!
They will take risks, learn what works and doesn't work. They will learn how to be a kid in an environment that embraces who they are, no matter what an assessment or score says. They will learn to use their imagination and use it to their advantage.
Our online campaign has helped us reach the $2,955 mark. With over $900 collected in cash and checks from families, we are well over halfway there. We are looking to raise $6,550 for the playground and hope you'll help too!
Below is the link to our GoFundMe page for this playground campaign. Donations are also accepted in person. Drop off any donations to the PTA office with Lalita.
A new Parent Workshop Resource tab has been created under the PTA & Resources drop down tab for any workshop presentations. These serve as resources for the parents of students at P.S. 244Q.

If your child was born in 2009, it's time to start thinking about kindergarten for next year. You can apply to kindergarten from January 13 to February 14, 2014. All families, including those of students with disabilities and current pre-k students, should submit an application.
Admission is not first-come, first-served. All applications received by the deadline are treated the same.
For the first time ever, you can apply to kindergarten using one application called Kindergarten Connect. Kindergarten Connect is designed to make applying to schools easier, so you can spend more time researching schools, and less time submitting paperwork.
When you apply, you can list up to 20 schools on your application.
There are just a few items you need to apply:
Students will automatically be placed on the waitlist for any school ranked higher on the application than the offer received. Schools will contact families on the waitlist directly if they can offer the student a placement. Waitlists will close in mid-October.
For more details about Kindergarten Admissions, including everything you need to know about researching schools, submitting an application, and registering your child, check out the Introduction to the Elementary School Directory. Full Elementary School Directories for each borough and district are linked below.
