What is it?
The TALES Read-A-Thon will be a month-long event that will help raise money to upgrade our school's playground as well as encourage students to read! Families and friends of the student will pledge a donation. The student will embark on a month long journey to read as many minutes as they can. These minutes will be logged onto a separate Read-A-Thon reading log. Minutes logged for homework can also be used towards the Read-A-Thon!
Who can participate?
Students from all grades can take part in the TALES Read-A-Thon! Children who can read are encouraged to read as many minutes on their own or with their parents. For the kids that cannot read yet, parents can read to them and those minutes can be used toward the Read-A-Thon.
When will it take place?
The TALES Read-A-Thon will be a month long event beginning on January 23rd and ending on February 24th. Information and Read-A-Thon reading logs will be handed out before then.
Where will it take place?
Anywhere you can read a book and log it! Whether your child is reading at home, in after school, during school, at the library, or during Fridays when the TALES library is open to families, we encourage you and your child to enter the wonderful world of reading!
Why is it important?
Reading is very important and studies show that children who read for pleasure do significantly better in school than peers who do not. We want to encourage our students to see the importance of reading and foster the development of a great habit with ultimate goal of turning them into lifelong readers. At the same time, we also want to take the opportunity to raise money to upgrade our playground!
